“San Bernardino, CA artist Rory Murray has been a long time supporter of the marijuana lifers. He regularly writes to them, participates in fundraisers, has marched and protested on their behalves, he even wrote a song about them, “Set Paul Free.” In the song, Rory managed to get the names of most of the prisoners we advocate for on this site, as well as a few other nonviolent marijuana offenders. But of all the things Rory does, perhaps the one that touches the hearts of the prisoners the most, is the hand drawn birthday cards he regularly crafts for them. Rory takes the time to personalize each card to that prisoner and his interests, and that effort makes his cards ones the prisoners keep year after year.”
When he isn’t making birthday cards for marijuana lifers, Rory is involved in lots of interesting and creative projects. He is a curator/guide at the original McDonald’s Museum, a contributing artist to San Bernardino’s “Living Mural,” and the creator/designer of the iconic Wigwam Motel Restoration Project on historic Route 66.
(If you would like to send birthday cards to the Marijuana Lifers – you don’t have to draw them yourself like Rory – click here for addresses and information. There is no easier way to send some sunshine into a very dark place!)
Below are some of the cards this talented artist has made for the Marijuana Lifers.
