Craig Frazier is serving de-facto life for marijuana.

Craig Frazier was just granted clemency from his de-facto life sentence for marijuana.

8-30-16 — Marijuana Lifer Project director Cheri Sicard got a phone call from Craig Frazier at about noon PST saying he had just received the news of his sentence commutation.

Craig had a clemency petition filed for over a year now.  He said when his attorney asked if he should tell anyone the news, Frazier replied “Call my mother for me, I have to call Cheri!”

While it might sound strange, the attorney had Frazier’s mother’s number, and Sicard had been advocating for him for the previous 3 years. Not only that, Marijuana Lifer Project volunteers have collected hundreds of clemency support letters on his behalf.

Sicard said, “Getting news of clemency for those serving life for marijuana never gets old.  I am thrilled for Craig and his family. And I am incredibly honored he chose to call here first.”

Craig Frazier, incarcerated since 2005 on a charge of conspiracy to distribute marijuana, was sentenced to 40 years for the nonviolent offense.  He will serve 8 years parole. His sentence is scheduled to “expire” on December 28, 2016.

After his release from FCI VIctorville, Craig Frazier has plans to return to college. He said “I may be the oldest student there, but it is something I have always wanted to do.”

We at the Marijuana Lifer Project could not be happier.  Congratulations Craig!
