We have been doing a lot concerning Clemency Support letters, this last February. Marijuana Lifer Project executive director Cheri Sicard gave talks to member’s of Riverside, CA’s MAPP (Marijuana Anti-Prohibition Project) club, then Orange County (CA) NORML (National organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws). The talks brought members up to speed on how people get a life sentence for marijuana, the importance of clemency support letters, as well as tips on how to write one.
The invitations to speak came from the groups’ leaders, Lanny Swerdlow (MAPP) and Kandice Hawes (OC NORML, as both Lanny and Kandice also serve on the Marijuana Lifer Project’s board of directors and are passionate about the cause of helping people serving life sentences for marijuana.
In the meantime, Washington state activist Kristin Flor organized advocates to collect clemency support letters at Seattle’s Cannacon. Kristin and her crew in the Pacific Northwest did a fabulous job last year, collecting hundreds of clemency letters for marijuana lifers, including Billy Dekle, who was granted clemency by President Obama in December, 2015.
