I am writing to ask that you grant clemency to federal prisoner Anthony DeJohn (#10232-052). Anthony is sentenced to Life plus 10 years for a nonviolent marijuana conspiracy offense. He has been incarcerated since 2005.
Anthony has a loving family including his wife Jill, his two adult children, his parents, and even a grandson waiting on his return. He wants desperately to return the people who love him and have stood by him. Anthony has always worked hard and he has skills, especially in the construction industry, which would insure gainful employment and a seamless transition back into society.
Anthony’s only prior offenses were two minor drug violations. Despite the fact that many states have legalized marijuana for medical use, and some even for recreational use, Anthony DeJohn is sentenced to die in prison for a conspiracy to distribute that substance, unless you grant him compassion give him another chance at life. Out of the approximately 32 co-defendants in his case, Anthony DeJohn is the only one who remains behind bars.
Releasing a previously productive member of society, whose crime involved no violence and no victims would not only benefit Anthony DeJohn and the family who love him, it would also benefit our society at large. It makes no fiscal sense to keep a man, who was never a danger or threat to anyone, locked behind bars until he dies. It is precisely these types of sentences that undermine the public’s trust in the system. Please show compassion and grant clemency to Anthony DeJohn.
